Did you know that lash extension longevity has to deal with how you properly take care of them. Here are some tips and dos and donts if you decide to get lashed.
Do:
Come to your lash appointment with clean and make up free eyes so your lash artist has a clean canvas to work on. The cleaner your natural lashes are, the stronger the bond with between the natural lash and the extension. Make sure you use your lash cleanser right before each fill. If you come to your lash appointment with makeup on your eyes, this takes time away from your lash artist from putting extensions on since part of your lash time would be having to clean them. More time equals more lashes!
-Brush your lashes daily. The lash extensions are attached individually to each natural lash so they will go wherever your real lashes go. In the morning, your lashes might look funky, just simply brush them in place.
-Clean your lashes regularly. Use an oil-free extension safe lash cleanser to properly clean your lashes. You will want to use a soft bristle clean makeup brush to clean your lash line. If you do not clean your lashes just like your hair on your head, your natural oils from your eyelid will build up and break down the glue faster. Can be done daily or a few times a week. If you wear makeup on your eyes on a daily basis, it is recommended to clean your extensions daily to remove any makeup. If you do not clean your lashes, the chance for infection, blepharitis, eye mites infestation are more likely to occur. Clean your lashes over the sink and not in the shower. Remember clean lashes equal longer lasting lashes.
Dont:
-Do not wear oil based or water proof mascara or eyeliner, if you choose to do so, the mascara must be water based and eye lash extension safe. Volume lashes should never have any mascara since it will close the volume fans together.
-Avoid extremely hot and sweaty environments. Examples: hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga. The sweat from your body will run into your lashes causing the glue to break down faster.
-No pulling or tugging on your extensions. Since the glue is semi permanent, if you pull out your extensions, you will pull out your real lashes. Avoid sleeping on your stomach and people that constantly sleep on one side, may notice more lash loss on that eye that they sleep on. Try to sleep on your back and with a silk pillowcase.
-Avoid being close to camp fires, BBQs, ovens, blow dryers or anything that produces heat that is near your eye lash extensions. Since eye lash extensions are synthetically made, they have a melting point and if the extensions are to close to heat, the tips of the extensions will fringe. Don't worry though, your real lashes will be okay!
-Do not put your face directly in your shower faucet.
-Do not brush your extensions when they are wet, wait until they are dry and brush in place.
I hope these tips and dos and don'ts are helpful! Have a wonderful day! :)
